Notre Dame, Ind. – Senior Russell Carter (Paulsboro, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Week Honor Roll this week after averaging 20.0 points per game in Notre Dame’s wins last week over Portland and Army. It marks the second time this season that the Irish guard has been honored by the league after being named its player of the week just two weeks ago.
Carter started the 2-0 week off by scoring a career-high 28 points versus Portland and helped break open a close game as the Irish eventually prevailed by 17 points (86-69). He finished the contest by hitting 8-16 (.500) shots from the field, was 5-10 (.500) from three-point range and 7-8 (.875) from the free-throw line. Against Army, he netted 12 points, playing just 25 minutes in a 41-point victory (88-47).
Carter leads the Irish in scoring with a career-best 17.6 points per game. He also is averaging 4.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals.
Notre Dame is currently off to its best start at 10-1 since the 2002-03 campaign. Since losing to Butler (71-69) in the second game of the season, the Irish have rattled off nine straight victories — the longest win streak for a Notre Dame team since 1986-87 when that squad won 11 consecutive games. The Irish also are ranked 19th in the Associated Press Poll and 24th in the ESPN/USA Today ranking.
