NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Former Harvard assistant Julia Scaringe has joined the Notre Dame women’s tennis staff in a similar position, head coach Jay Louderback announced Tuesday.
“We’re very excited to get Julia here,” Louderback said. “Her playing experience, plus her teaching and coaching experience, should add a lot to our program.”
Scaringe joins the Irish staff after spending a year with the women’s tennis program at Harvard, where she helped coach two All-Ivy players and 2008 NCAA singles participant Beier Ko.
A 2003 Florida graduate, Scaringe played the No. 1 singles position for the Gators. During her time in Gainesville, Florida won a national championship, two SEC conference championships, three SEC tournament championships and finished as the NCAA runner-up and national team indoor runner-up. She received Florida’s Most Improved Player award, the SEC Outstanding senior award and was named the ITA South region player of the year as a senior in 2003. Scaring achieved a career-high ITA singles ranking of 24 and seven in doubles.
She was also a two-time Dorothy Anderson Award recipient, given to an athlete who displays the best combination of academics and character on and off the court, as well as a 2002 Sportsmanship Award honoree. Scaringe graduated 11th all-time in combined singles and doubles wins in Florida history and seventh all-time in doubles victories. She was a member of Florida’s SAAC and Student-Athlete Advisory committees.
As a junior player, Scaringe was a member of the U.S. National team, playing in all four junior Grand Slams and achieving a world ranking of 54 in singles and 42 in doubles. Her best results came at the Australian Open where she reached the round of 16 in singles play.
She received a Bachelor of Arts in business administration.
