SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The question on the final day of play was not if a Notre Dame team would win the whole tournament, but rather which team it would be. Seniors Matt Che and Connor Fu would take on teammates Addy Vashistha and Noah Becker to determine the champions of the Fighting Irish Mini Duals.
The final round started with doubles where the seniors would get the best of the graduate student and freshman pair in a close 7-6(4) set to take the 1-0 lead. In singles, Matt Che would cap off a great weekend of individual play as he took out Addy Vashistha 7-6, 6-3 to clinch the title. Che would finish the weekend a perfect 8-0 overall with 4 wins in doubles and 4 in singles.
In the 3rd/4th place match, Irish pairing of Yu Zhang and Evan Lee would fall just short to the team from Northwestern 2-1. After dropping the doubles match 6-4, Lee would fall to Bengsston 6-4, 6-3. But Zhang would pick up his second singles win of the weekend with a 7-6, 5-7, 1-0(7) battle with Goli.
Finishing off the weekend in the consolation draw, the Halpin, Ho, Corsillo trio who split matches came out on top of their Indiana opponents 2-1. The doubles point would go to the Hoosiers for the early lead in the dual but Senior Braeden Ho would even things up with a 6-3, 6-0 win. With it tied 1-1, Jamie Corsillo would win 6-4, 6-3 to give the Irish the win to end the weekend.
To go along with the team best 8-0 record by Che, Corsillo would end up a perfect 4-0 this weekend all in singles play. Noah Becker ended the weekend with a combined 5-1 record.
