NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Seven University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving standouts earned academic recognition from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Monday. Bridget Casey, Christen McDonough and Emma Reaney all received Scholar All-America honors while Sarah Dotzel, Emma Gaboury, Catherine Galletti and Lauren Stauder earned honorable mention Scholar All-America accolades.

Reaney, who has already been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Women’s Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a first team Capital One Academic At-Large All-American, won the national championship in the 200-yard breaststroke at March’s NCAA Championships in addition to picking up three first team All-America scrolls.

Meanwhile, Casey competed in her second NCAA Championships in March while McDonough closed out her career with her first appearance on the national stage.

The Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative, or term grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the academic term coinciding with their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CCCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and have qualified for and competed at the their respective national championships.

Four others earned honorable mention Scholar All-America honors as Sarah Dotzel, Emma Gaboury, Catherine Galletti and Lauren Stauder were recognized for their outstanding work in the pool and classroom.

The CSCA Honorable Mention Scholar All-America Award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester, or cumulative average, and have achieved a “B” time standard but did not compete in their national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets, zones or NCAA preliminary rounds.

In addition, the entire Irish women’s program was honored as a 2014 Spring CSCAA Scholar All-America Team in early June.

The Spring Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the semester/quarter coinciding with the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CCCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
