EARLYSVILLE, VA. – The Notre Dame cross country team competed for the ACC Championship title on Friday, Oct. 28. The women’s team placed second, making it the eighth time in the past nine seasons they have placed in the top five. The men’s team claimed fourth place with an individual title crown.
Carter Solomon claimed the men’s individual title with a time of 22:55.9 only to be the second Irish champion in meet history. He crossed the finish line only 0.2 of a seconds before Wolfe of North Carolina finished.
Right behind Solomon was Izaiah Steury who ran for a time of 23:17.0 and was once again the first freshman to cross the finish line. Steury claimed ninth place to help the team’s scoring efforts. Teammate Josh Methner finished in tenth place with a time of 23:18.3. Solomon, Steury, and Methner all claimed All-ACC honors with their finishes.
Quinn Gallagher finished in 31st with a time of 23:37.4 while teammate Matthew Carmody finished right behind him with a time of 23:46.8. Cater Cheesman and Nick Mota finished together when they crossed the finish line at 24:00.5 and 24:00.9, respectively.
Kevin Berry, Robert Cozean, and Ryan Schumacher rounded out the Irish finishes with times of 24:13.8, 24:41.2, and 24:45.2.
The women’s team closed in on NC State when there was only a four point margin. Olivia Markezich finished in third place with a time of 19:29.7. Katie Thronson, Siona Chisholm, and Maddy Denner finished sixth through eighth to help the Irish to their second place finish. Thronson finished at 19:47.5, Chisholm finished at 19:52.7, and Denner finished at 19:56.0.
Anna Sophia Keller helped the Irish when she finished with a time of 20:05.6. Katie Rose Blachowicz and Sophie Novak finished right behind each other with times of 21:10.9 and 21:11.4, respectively. Katilin Ryan crossed the finish line at 21:48.2 and Charlotte Turesson rounded out the Irish with a time of 22:44.5. Markezich, Thronson, Chisholm, Denner and Keller all received All-ACC honors based on their finishes.
The Irish continue on with postseason competition when they head to the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals on Nov. 11.
