AS A SENIOR: Finished final campaign with the Irish with a record of 28-16 to finish career with 148 victories in epee … earned fourth monogram … opened the year with five victories at the NYU Invitational that saw him get two of those decisions over NYU … went 6-4 the following day at the St. John’s Challenge, recording two wins apiece against Harvard (2-0) and Columbia (2-1) … clinched the epee decision over Harvard, defeating Ben White, 5-2, for the decisive point … went a perfect 9-0 at the Notre Dame Duals … posted a 4-3 record at the Northwestern Duals, including a crucial victory over Mike Elfassy of Princeton (5-4) to clinch the epee for the Irish, 5-4 … also clinched the epee against UC-San Diego later at the event with a 5-2 victory over James Galamba … went 6-2 at the season ending Duke Duals, including a perfect 3-0 against the host Blue Devils … clinched the epee over North Carolina with a 5-2 decision over Maxwell Tice-Lewis … also clinched epee over Johns Hopkins with victory over Nick Krywopusk, 5-4 … earned a top-10 result at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships, finishing ninth overall while also helping the epee team claim the title … ended Irish career at the NCAA Midwest Regionals, placing 12th overall with a 1-5 mark in pool play.
AS A JUNIOR: Completed his junior campaign with a record of 58-25 and a 12th-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championships … posted a record of 11-7 at the NYU Invitational to open the season, recording perfect 3-0 ledgers against Columbia and St. John’s … tallied a 5-5 record at the St. John’s Challenge, posting a perfect 3-0 record against Columbia … totaled an 18-12 finish at the Northwestern Duals, recording perfect 3-0 wins versus Detroit and Cleveland State … led the Irish at the Notre Dame Duals, going 24-1 and clinching victories over Lawrence and Michigan, while also posting perfect 3-0 wins against Lawrence, Northwestern, Michigan State, Illinois, Chicago, Cleveland State and Indiana … took 18th, behind teammate Andrew Seroff, at the Midwest Conference Championships after defeating Wisconsin’s Gavin Bailey in the round of 64 (15-7) … earned the silver medal at the NCAA Midwest Regionals, losing to Ohio State’s Igor Tolkachev, 15-5, in the final … took 12th at the NCAA Championships with a record of 12-11 in round robin play, while also earning third team All-America recognition … dubbed winner of the Yves Auriol Award.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Finished the regular season with a 24-16 record … had nine wins at the NCAA Championships to place 18th … opened his season by going 5-3 at the Northwestern Duals … posted perfect 2-0 records against North Carolina and Johns Hopkins … finished 6-3 at the Duke Duals … clinched Notre Dame’s 14-13 win over tenth-ranked Duke at the Duke Duals with a come-from-behind, sudden death win over Jonathan Parker (5-4) … recorded his 50th career win at the Duke Duals … went 7-4 at the Notre Dame Duals … made a run to the quarterfinals in the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships to earn second-team All-Conference honors … entered direct elimination at that tournament tied for the fourth seed to earn a bye into the round of 64, in which he defeated Luke Schweiterman of Xavier, 15-3 … then he knocked off Michigan’s Marvin Lowenthal, 15-4, in the round of 32 and Michigan’s Bill Kolodzey, 15-9, in the round of 16 … knocked out by Wayne State’s Slava Zingerman in a close bout, 15-12, in the quarterfinals … had a strong showing for the Irish at the NCAA Midwest Regional, finishing fifth … after losing to Ohio State’s Jason Pryor in the first match in the final eight, rallied off two wins to take fifth … in the fifth-place bout, downed teammate Brent Kelly in a closely contested match that went down to the wire, 15-14 … went 9-14 at the NCAA Championships to place 18th.
AS A FRESHMAN: Finished the year 38-19 … second-place finisher at the NCAA Midwest Regionals … went 3-3 in the opening rounds of the regionals … had direct-elimination wins over Notre Dame teammate Andrew Seroff (15-9) and Ohio State’s Jason Pryor (15-11) … beat Pryor (15-12) in the quarterfinals before going on to defeat Notre Dame teammate Greg Howard (15-10) in the semifinals … ended his season with a 15-8 loss to teammate Karol Kostka in the finals … also finished third at the Penn State Open … finished 7-3 at the Notre Dame Duals … went 12-5 at the NYU Duals … finished 7-0 in Sunday competition at the Penn State Duals.
