AS A SENIOR:Finished his time with the Irish swimming mostly free events, with a few fly events… secured a first place win as the third leg of the 800 free relay team at the Shamrock Invitational (6:35.03)… also placed first as the fourth leg against Olivet Nazarene (6:53.15)… also swam the second leg of 400 free relay three times… swam to seventh at the Shamrock Invitational (3:07.03)… eighth at the Hawkeye Invitational (3:03.63)… ninth against Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh (3:15.02)… had three other top-ten finishes at the Hawkeye Invitational… swam the first leg in 800 free relay, securing seventh (6:46.51)… touched the wall tenth in both the 500 free finals (4:27.94) and 1650 free (15:52.14)… also placed 17th in 200 free finals (1:39.28)… swam two fly events during the season… swam to seventh in 100 fly against Purdue (53.84)… touched the wall third in 200 fly against Cleveland State (1:56.07).

AS A JUNIOR: Was one of three co-captains for the Irish … swam freestyle events throughout the season, trying his hand twice at the 200 fly … swam 22.02 split in 50 free lead leg of 200 free relay team against Cleveland State, coming in second (1:26.89) … against the Warriors, touched the wall fifth in 100 free (47.14) … at Hawkeye Invitational, touched the wall in 1:40.24 in 200 free in prelim swim, before clocking a 1:39.66 mark in final heat … came in fourth in 200 free (1:40.82) at Shamrock Invite … was 13th in 500 free (4:28.16) at Hawkeye Invitational … came in second in 500 free (4:30.81) at Shamrock meet … logged career best time in 1,000 free at Hawkeye Invitational, touching in at 9:36.53 … blew past old career best time in 1,650 free at Shamrock Invite, finishing second (15:44.03) … in 200 fly, came in third against Cleveland State (1:53.68) and eighth in tri-meet against Michigan State and Virginia (2:03.70).

AS A SOPHOMORE: Swam primarily in freestyle events during sophomore campaign … at the Northwestern Invitational, brought home a fourth-place finish and season-best time in the 1,650 free (15:55.15) … helped the 200 free relay team to a fifth-place finish at the Shamrock Invitational … was the fifth swimmer to touch the wall in the 1,650 free (16:24.17) against Cleveland State … placed sixth in the 500 free (4:52.67) in the same meet … swam to a sixth-place finish in the 200 free relay against BIG EAST foe Louisville … finished eighth in the 1,000 free (9:59.93) against Pittsburgh and was also part of the 400 free relay team that finished fourth … received the Patrick Reilly McManus Captain’s Award, presented each year by team captains to the Notre Dame swimmer who best exemplifies the qualities of being a great teammate in and out of the pool … BIG EAST Academic All-Star … earned a monogram.

AS A FRESHMAN: Swam a wide range of freestyle distances as well as the 200 fly in his first campaign … swam three events at the BIG EAST Championships and recorded season-best times in each … recorded readouts of 1:41.04 in the 200 free, 4:30.25 in the 500 free, and 15:52.72 in the 1,650 free at the meet … posted a season-best time in the 200 fly (1:56.18) at the Hawkeye Invitational … saw dual meet action against Michigan State, Louisville, Northwestern, Valparaiso, Pittsburgh, and the quad meet against Michigan, Oakland, and TCU … was honored with the Meghan Beeler and Colleen Hipp Award, which is presented annually to the freshman who best demonstrates vitality, competitiveness and love for Notre Dame … earned a monogram.

PREP AND PERSONAL: Swam for The Bolles School (Fla.), which won the 2009-10 Swimming World high school national championship … former Irish women’s swimmer Katie Casey also swam for the same prep program … four-time letterwinner … Junior National qualifier and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American as a member of the Bolles School Sharks club … team-captain and all-city choice as a senior … led prep squad to state titles in 2009 and 2010 … won Babe Ruth Foundation Award for high ideals in scholarship, leadership, patriotism and athletic achievement … son of Katy and Pat Murphy … has two siblings, Shannon and Ryan … full name is Patrick Sullivan Murphy … active in National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and Outward Bound Club … graduated from the Mendoza College of Business, majoring in finance.
