AS A SENIOR: Provided veteran leadership to the Irish sprint group while earning his first career All-America citation … also earned a share of his third indoor school record … ran his best 200-meter time of the indoor season at the Notre Dame Opener, finishing second in 22.32; also ran 34.96 over 300 meters at the meet … ran 48.74 for 400 meters at the Notre Dame Invitational … dropped his 400-meter time down to 47.56 at the Meyo Invitational, finishing fifth in a crowded field … also ran in the Irish 4×400-meter relay at the Meyo, running the second-fastest time in school history (3:10.31) with teammates Austin Wechter, Jordan Powell, and Bob Kueny; that mark provisionally qualified the relay for the NCAA meet … qualified for both the 200 and 400 meters at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship, but concentrated solely on the 400, placing fourth with a time of 48.30 in the final … joined teammates Thomas Chamney, Adam Currie and Kurt Benninger in the distance medley relay, breaking the school record (9:33.82) on the way to a fourth-place finish and NCAA provisional qualifying mark … the team added John Cavanaugh as its 800-meter leg and shifted Currie to Chamney[apos]s 1,200 leg at the NCAA Championships, earning All-American honors for the four athletes … Postel ran the 400 meters as the team finished in 9:40.61 for sixth place … opened the outdoor season with a 400-meter win at the Cal Poly Invitational (47.51) … established an NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying mark and (at the time) the seventh-fastest in school history with a 400-meter win at the Jim Click Shootout (47.03) … took the 200-meter title at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational in 21.67 seconds, easily qualifying for the BIG EAST outdoor meet in his second event … took third in the 400 meters at the Mount SAC Relays with a time of 47.27 seconds … dipped under 47 seconds at the Central Collegiate Championship, finishing second with a time of 46.89 seconds … the mark stood as the seventh-quickest in Irish history at the time … qualified for the BIG EAST outdoor meet in the 200 and 400 meters … posted the top 200-meter time in the preliminaries (21.38) before taking fourth in the final heat in 21.60 … also topped the preliminaries in the 400 meters, running 46.72, the fifth-best time in school history and close to his career best … just missed out on a BIG EAST title in the event, picking up all-BIG EAST honors with a runner-up finish in 46.96 seconds … helped the 4×400-meter relay pick up fourth at the meet, earning more points to the eventual team championship … took 23rd at the NCAA Mideast Regional, covering the 400 meters in 47.45 … the 4×400-meter relay took 12th at the regional, running the fourth-fastest time in school history (3:10.39) … poised for big things in his final year of eligibility.
AS A JUNIOR: Did not compete due to illness.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Took a large step forward as one of the top sprinters in the BIG EAST Conference … claimed his first individual BIG EAST Championship in the outdoor 400 meters, beating the field with a 47.22 effort in the finals (ran a personal-best 46.63 in the preliminaries) … also claimed a share of the indoor 4×400-meter relay school record, combining with Trevor McClain-Duer, Jordan Powell and Selim Nurudeen to run 3:09.87 at the Alex Wilson Invitational … achieved his career best and set the school record in the indoor 400 meters at the Alex Wilson Invitational … upon completion of the indoor season, had the two fastest indoor 400 meter times in school history and three school records … has earned seven all-BIG EAST honors as an individual and on various relays in just two full track and field seasons … ran well at the BIG EAST indoor meet as well, finishing second in 47.66 to earn all-BIG EAST honors … earned all-BIG EAST honors at the BIG EAST indoor meet in the 4×400 relay, finishing second with McClain-Duer, Powell and Nurudeen … appeared at the adidas Indoor Games in the distance medley relay, running 9:45.33 with Kurt Benninger, Thomas Chamney and Eric Morrison … ran 10.57 over 100 meters at the outdoor Spring Opener, posting the fourth-fastest performance in school history … ran extremely well during the BIG EAST outdoor meet, as his 46.63 effort in the preliminaries ranks as the fourth-best in school history … finished a solid fourth in the 400 meters at the Mount SAC Relays (47.41) … qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional in the 400 meters, finishing 20th (47.46) … after winning the 400 meters at the BIG EAST outdoor meet, earned all-BIG EAST honors with second-place efforts in the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays … combined with Nurudeen, Ryan Hurd and Tommie Lee to finish second in the 4×100-meter relay at the BIG EAST outdoor meet, posting a time of 41.20 … teamed with McClain-Duer, Powell and Nurudeen to take second in the 4×400 relay in 3:10.52 … the same team ran 3:09.65 at the NCAA Mideast Regional, the second-best 4×400-meter relay in school history … spent the fall of 2004 working out with the Notre Dame football team as a walk-on receiver.
AS A FRESHMAN: Developed well during his rookie season, concentrating on the 400 meters … earned two all-BIG EAST honors as a member of Notre Dame[apos]s relay teams … helped teammates Trevor McClain-Duer, Ryan Hurd and Mark Barber finish second in the 4×400 relay at the BIG EAST indoor meet (3:15.85) … helped Hurd, Barber and Selim Nurudeen finish third in the 4×100 at the BIG EAST outdoor meet (41.31) … claimed victories in the 400 meters against Western Michigan/Ball State and Michigan State … posted a season-best time of 48.24 to cap the indoor season at the Alex Wilson Invitational … qualified for the BIG EAST indoor meet in the 400 meters, finishing ninth in the preliminaries … member of the distance medley relay team during the indoor season … combined with teammates Kevin Somok, Thomas Chamney and Eric Morrison to qualify for the NCAA Championships … eventually finished 10th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. … continued to run well during the outdoor season, taking home a victory at the Tom Botts Invitational in the 400 meters (47.97) … qualified for the BIG EAST outdoor meet, scoring points for the team effort by finishing sixth in the finals of the 400 meters (47.77).
HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL: A three-sport standout, earning letters in track and field (four), basketball (three) and football (two) at Lexington (Ky.) Catholic High School … won state title in 400-meter dash in 2002 … three-time all-state selection and nine-time individual state championship medalist … helped team to four regional titles and a state runner-up finish in 2001 … 12-time individual regional championship medalist … was ranked among top five in the state in nine different events from 2000-02, including a No. 1 ranking at 400 meters … Kentucky AAU two-time gold medalist in 2001 at 100 and 200 meters, and a bronze medalist in long jump … two-time team captain of track and field squad … also was a talented wide receiver in football, ranking first in the state in 2001 in average yards per reception and second in touchdown catches … garnered honorable mention all-state honors from the Associated Press in 2001 … was a member of LCHS state championship basketball team in 2002 … team was ranked as high as 10th in the nation by USA Today … member of National Honor Society … middle of three children … born Oct. 22, 1983 in Miami, Fla. … enrolled in the Mendoza College of Business with a major in management information systems.
