Mandy Merritt 2023-24 Men's Lacrosse Staff
Senior Associate Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist (Men's Lacrosse)

Mandy Merritt first started at Notre Dame in January 2008 as an Associate Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer. She has spent 18 seasons as the men’s lacrosse athletic trainer and added football to her resume in Fall 2021.
Merritt graduated from the University of Delaware in May 2001, and started physical therapy school also at UD in May 2002. She graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in December 2005. Merritt went on to work at Towson University at the Men’s Lacrosse Athletic Trainer before returning to work at the University of Delaware in a dual position with the UD Physical Therapy clinic and the University’s athletic department. Within the Physical Therapy clinic, she was a clinical instructor and researcher with patients who had total knee arthroscopy and coper vs. non-coper ACL athletes; within the athletic department, Merritt worked with women’s basketball, men’s soccer and women’s lacrosse.
Merritt was chosen as the head athletic trainer for the 2012 U-19 USA Men’s Lacrosse team, which won the gold medal at the Worlds in Turku, Finland in July of 2012. She continued on with the USA Men’s National Lacrosse team serving two rotations traveling to Israel in 2018, and San Diego in 2023 winning gold in both world championships. Her ultimate goal is to be chosen for medical coverage for the first ever Men’s Lacrosse 6’s in the LA 2028 Olympics.
Merritt was an avid soccer player for over 40 years playing at all levels. She was a four-year academic scholar athlete, playing Division 1 soccer on a full scholarship at the University of Delaware. Merritt was named to 1st team all-conference two years, was an Academic All-American nominee, and top 10 in goals scored, assists and points in her career as a Blue Hen.
Merritt hails from Wellandport, Ontario, Canada and currently resides in South Bend. She is married to Nathan Johnson, and the couple has two sons, Grady and Mack and two golden retrievers, Ben and Rodger.
