Shelby Carroll
Bio

Shelby Carroll joined the University of Notre Dame in August 2014 and currently serves as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Media, Brand, & Communications. She is also a Sport Administrator for Women’s Basketball.

As the Senior Associate Athletics Director, a role she has held since July 2024, Carroll oversees the Fighting Irish Media team, which manages the athletics department’s video, creative, social media, fan experience, and marketing projects.

Prior to her role in Athletics, Carroll served as a Senior Regional Director of Development within University Relations. In this role, she oversaw fundraising initiatives in Southern California, Arizona, Southern Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and Hawaii. Her team was responsible for raising funds for students, faculty, and staff in strategic campaign initiatives. While in Development, Carroll co-chaired the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Unity Task Force, which aimed to create a more inclusive and educated environment for employees.

Carroll came to Notre Dame in 2014 to serve as the Assistant Director of the President’s Circle. She became Director of the President’s Circle and served in this role until 2019. In this role, she oversaw the University President’s discretionary fund, which raised mission gifts for the most pressing needs in areas of financial aid, research, academics, and Catholic mission.

Carroll began her career at her alma mater, Grinnell College, where she spent 2013-2014 as a major gift officer. Carroll graduated from Grinnell College in 2013 with her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She was also a four-year letter-winner on the volleyball team. Carroll earned her master’s in business administration from the University of Notre Dame in 2019 through the Executive MBA program.

A native of Pasadena, California, she now lives in South Bend with her husband, Mike Bough, and their two dogs — Olly and Kobe.
