DULUTH, Ga. – The (RV) Notre Dame men’s golf team fought back after a tough start to Monday’s AutoTrader Collegiate Classic at the Berkeley Hills Country Club, climbing five spots in the standings to sit in third place in the 15-team field. After two rounds, the Irish sit at 582 (+6), just one stroke back from second place.
Individually, junior Miguel Delgado led the way with a round of 69 (-3) in the morning, followed by an afternoon round of 70 (-2). Delgado’s 139 (-5) is good for second place, seven strokes back from leader Steven Fisk of Georgia Southern.
Round One
Delgado finished two-under on the front-nine before nearly completing a mistake-free round of golf, recording just one bogey to finish at three-under. However, the rest of the squad suffered some setbacks, all finishing over-par as the team scored a 297 (+9)
Round Two
Delgado maintained his momentum into round two, tallying six birdies to ultimately card a round of two-under, thus five-under on the day. Delgado’s 10 birdies on Monday were the second most of any competitor.
The biggest turnaround performance of the day belonged to Kevin Conners. After carding an 83 in round one, Conners secured a 70 in round two, marking his fourth round under-par this season.
Ben Albin was one of seven individuals to earn an eagle on the day, doing so on the par-5 hole No. 3. Albin went on to card a 72 (E) for the round. Lastly, rounding out the counted team scores was Davis Chatfield, who netted a 73 (+1).
All-in-all, Notre Dame tallied a 285 (-3), marking the second lowest total of the round.

“We came back strong in the afternoon and the guys fought back,” head coach John Handrigan stated. “There have been several things we’ve been working on the past couple of weeks but didn’t quite execute it today. We talked about it tonight, learned a few things and will be ready tomorrow.”
“I walked with Miguel for 18 holes this morning,” Handrigan explained. “First time I got to walk with him this fall. He’s an unbelievable competitor and extremely smart player. It was a pleasure to watch and to see how he handled himself. True professional.”
