Tamasitis Named Assistant Coach At Rutgers

Aug. 10, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Former Notre Dame women’s lacrosse standout Maggie Tamasitis has been named an assistant coach at Rutgers, Scarlet Knights head coach Laura Brand-Sias announced on Thursday.

Tamasitis, who graduated from Notre Dame in May with a degree in film, television and theatre from the College of Arts & Letters, becomes just the latest former Irish player to make the transition from the field to the sidelines.

“I am very excited for Maggie to have the opportunity to begin her coaching career in the familiar BIG EAST conference,” said Notre Dame head coach Christine Halfpenny. “I have no doubt that she will make an immediate impact on the strong and rising program that Laura Brand-Sias is building at Rutgers. Clearly Maggie had an incredible here at Notre Dame, and I know her on the field skills will translate to the sidelines as I have already seen her breakdown the skills and sets to our younger players. It’s wonderful to have our younger alumni remain in the lacrosse business and continue to give back to the sport.”

The Boyertown, Pa., product concluded her brilliant four-year career this past year, stamping her name all over the school’s record books. A two-time IWLCA All-American, Tamasitis is the Notre Dame record holder for assists in a half (5), game (8), season (59) and career (151). She is also the BIG EAST record holder for assists in a game and for conference-games only (31). In addition to the All-America scrolls, Tamasitis earned first-team IWLCA West/Midwest all-region and all-BIG EAST honors twice and also earned a spot on the BIG EAST’s All-Tournament team two times. She was a tri-captain as a senior.

A standout in the classroom as well as on the field, she was women’s lacrosse’s recipient of the 2011-12 Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley Rockne Student-Athlete award as well as a 2011-12 Rosenthal Leadership Academy participant.
