Tanczos Breaks Facility Record in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Notre Dame’s indoor track and field team competed on Saturday January 29 at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky.

Michael Shoaf and Rachel Tanczos put on a show as they both brought first place back to South Bend in the men’s weight throw and women’s shot put. Shoaf threw for a 19.92m mark and Tanczos threw for 15.91m.Shoaf also took third place in the shot put with a throw of 18.34 meters. Tanczos’ throw was a facility record at the Trager Center at the University of Louisville.

The women’s high jump saw Madison Schmidt take seventh with a mark of 1.69m and teammates Sarah Flight and Jadin O’Brien tied for tenth with marks of 1.64m each.

Alaina Brady crossed the finish line in the 60 meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.74 seconds. Eve Balseiro took 12th place in the open 400 meter run when she crossed the finish line at 57.06.

Theo Chambers and Max Fry took home fourth and fifth place and facility record breaking performances in the open 400 meter dash with times of 48.48 and 48.74, respectively. Joseph Dobrydney took 15th in the same race, also with a facility record breaking time at 49.51.

In the open 800 meter run, Kaitlin Ryan took second place with a time of 2:09.07. Teammates Megan Hughes, Paige Grant and Molly Grant also ran in the 800 with times of 2:13.84, 2:14.43, and 2:16.81, respectively. Matthew Cornelius and Luis Cossio ran in the 200 meter dash and crossed the finish line at 22.82 and 23.68. 

The women’s 3000 meter run saw Charlotte Turesson running for a time of 10:18.26. The women’s 4×400 meter relay team took seventh place with a time of 3:50.69.

The Irish return to competition next week when they host the Meyo Invitational on February 4 and February 5. Information regarding the meet can be found at www.und.com.
