The University of Notre Dame volleyball team (25-6) found out its destination for the first round of the 2000 NCAA Volleyball Championship, Sunday night. The Irish will travel to St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio to meet Cincinnati (24-9) at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1. Ohio State (24-6) and Ball State (25-6) will face off in the other match on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Irish and the Bearcats have only met once, on Aug. 19, 1987, when Notre Dame won a five game match at the Eastern Kentucky Colonial Invitational in Richmond, Ky.
The winners will meet for the right to move on to the regionals (site and opponents to be decided).
This is the ninth consecutive appearance by the Irish in the NCAA tournament. Notre Dame has a 9-9 (.500) all-time record in NCAA tournament competition.
