NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame’s Warren Golf Course has been ranked No. 70 in GOLF’s 2020-21 best public-access courses in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean, and is one of only three courses located on a college campus
Considered to be some of the most esteemed course rankings in the golf industry, the 2020-21 GOLF ratings were the first set to venture outside the U.S. to include other locations in North America, ensuring the highest-quality courses from start to finish.
“This is a great honor for the University and a fitting recognition for an extraordinary golf course which we are so proud of,” said University Vice President and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick. “We’re so thankful for Bill Warren’s generosity, which allowed us to build the course and now to watch it mature, play host to events such as the 2019 U.S. Senior Open and receiving this ranking is proof of his vision.”
The William K. and Natalie O. Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame opened in the fall of 1999 thanks to the generous benefaction of William K. Warren, Jr., ND class of 1956. Named in honor of his parents, the golf course perfectly links three of Bill Warren’s abiding passions – his family, golf and Notre Dame. Mr. Warren’s generosity has continued throughout the years since the course opened and he has funded a number of improvements that have helped the golf course garner recognition as one of the top courses in the country.
Designed by famed golf course architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, it stands on 250 wooded acres on the northeast side of the Notre Dame campus and, at par 72, runs 7,020 yards from the back tees, 6,657 from the middle and 5,302 from the front tees.
In 2019, the course gained much recognition while playing host to the 40th U.S. Senior Open, marking the first time the United States Golf Association has hosted a senior major championship on a collegiate course.
The Warren Golf Course also recently retained its designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program. It was designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 2001 and is one of over 900 courses in the world to currently be designated as such.
