Women's Basketball Star Niele Ivey Leads Big East All-Stars To Victory

May 31, 2000

NOTRE DAME, Ind. —- Notre Dame senior guard Niele Ivey (St. Louis, Mo.) scored nine points, grabbed six rebounds and made five steals in leading the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball All-Stars to a 75-68 victory over Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia on May 30. The win improves the squad’s mark to 2-1 on its six-game Canadian tour.

The BIG EAST All-Stars, under the direction of West Virginia head coach Alexis Basil, overcame a 38-32 halftime deficit by starting the second half with a 9-0 run. From that point, the All-Stars led by no more than five points until a critical three-point play in the closing minutes put the contest out of reach.

Ivey is averaging 10.7 points (32 points) and 4.7 rebounds (14 rebounds) in the three games the All-Stars have played. All three of those contests have been against Simon Fraser. The All-Stars will play this same Simon Fraser squad one more time and then conclude its tour with two games against the University of Victoria on June 2 and 3.
