NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame men’s golf head coach John Handrigan announced Zac Zedrick as his new Associate Head Coach on Thursday. Zedrick arrives to South Bend with over 15 years experience at the Division-I level.
“Zac will have an immediate impact on Notre Dame Golf with his ten years of experience as an elite Head Coach at the Division I level,” Coach Handrigan stated. “Not only has Zac built championship programs at Miami, but he’s also done it the right way with strong character and integrity. His values align with ours at Notre Dame and he will be a great asset to our University.
“I’m thankful Coach Zedrick, wife Amanda and his daughters Millie and Norah will be joining the Notre Dame Golf family.”
Zedrick has spent the last ten years as the head coach of Miami University’s men’s golf program, guiding the RedHawks to a recent rising surge to national prominence. Most notably, Miami won the 2015 MAC Championship, its first in 19 years.
As a result, the Redhawks not only advanced to their first NCAA Regional since 1998, but also Zedrick earned the 2015 MAC Kermit Blosser Coach of the Year Award.
Just a few years later at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, the Redhawks went on to achieve their highest end of season national ranking in 15 years (No. 76).
“I’d like to thank Mr. Swarbrick, Mr. Kelly, and Coach Handrigan for this tremendous opportunity,” Zedrick said. “Athletically and academically, the standard of excellence at Notre Dame is truly unparalleled. I view it as a privilege and responsibility to do everything I can to support the University’s overall mission along with Coach Handrigan’s vision for being one of the nation’s elite golf programs.
“My wife, Amanda, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring our daughters to the South Bend community. We look forward to contributing to an immensely supportive and family-centered environment at Notre Dame.”
Numbers don’t lie when it comes to the student-athletes under Zedrick and their success both in the classroom and on the golf course: 11 Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholar selections, three GCAA Midwest All-Region selections, 10 Mid-American All-Conference honorees, eight Mid-American Conference All-Tournament Team selections, four Mid-American Conference Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsman of the Year selections and two Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year honorees.
Most notably was Patrick Flavin – a four-time All-MAC First Team selection who earned a spot on the PING All-Midwest Region Team in 2015, 2016 and 2018. He finished his career with the lowest scoring average (72.99 strokes per round) and most individual tournament wins (eight) in Miami history.
Prior to Miami, Zedrick spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Wichita State, where he helped lead the Shockers to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship and a NCAA Regional appearance each year. During his tenure, three golfers earned All-America status. In addition, Zedrick aided in all aspects of recruiting, while serving as the tournament director for their home tournament, the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic.
Zedrick is also an active member of the GCAA, where he has acted on several different committees over time: All-America Selection Committee (2017–Present), Arnold Palmer Cup Team USA Selection Committee (2020–Present), Midwest All-Region Selection Committee (2013–Present), Ben Hogan Award Committee (2018 – 2019, 2019 Vice-Chair) and the Jack Nicklaus Award Committee (2017–2018).
A four-year letterwinner at Michigan State University, Zedrick served as team captain in each of his final two years and was a member of the Academic All-Big Ten team in each of his final three seasons.
Zedrick earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Michigan State, graduating with High Honors. He later earned his master’s degree from Toledo in 2008 in recreation management with an emphasis in athletic administration, and also spent two seasons there as a Graduate Assistant Coach.
