Nov. 2, 2010

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Irish concluded their fall slate Tuesday in a tie for third place at 882 (+18) in the final round of the Alamo Invitational at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. Nicole Zhang (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Caroll) registered a two-under par 70 to close out the three-day tournament in third place. In her 54-holes the freshman fired eight birdies, one eagle and 36 par-even shots for a total of 215 (-1).

“I am pleased with how our team competed,” says head coach Susan Holt. “We beat TCU at the Mercedes-Benz Championship earlier this season, so it would have been nice to beat them, but we did pick up a win against Colorado, who was ranked just ahead of us.”

Senior So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Preparatory Academy) trailed Zhang in a tie with Colorado’s Emily Talley for fourth place. Park rounded out at 72 on the day for a three-round total of 217 (+1).

Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) concluded the tournament tied in ninth place, registering a 220 (+4). Nhim’s 220 score is her best 54-hole score at Notre Dame to date.

Juniors Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton) in a tie for 43rd place and Katie Allare (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier) tied for 54th, carding a 231 (+15) and 234 (+18), respectively to round out the Irish scores.

Texas Christian University (TCU) claimed the Alamo Invitational crown totaling an 877 (+13) throughout the three days, followed by Texas A&M in second with 880 (+16). The 18th ranked Irish tied for third with 17th ranked Colorado, registering an 883 (+19). Individually, Brooke Beeler of TCU captured first place with a four-under par score of 212 in the three-day tournament.

Notre Dame’s 18-over par score is its second best score of the season, trailing the 876 (+12) total the Irish earned at the Mercedes-Benz Championship on Fri., Oct. 10.

The Alamo Invitational marked the end of Notre Dame’s fall schedule. The spring season commences for the Irish on February 21, 2010 at the Central District Invitational, which will be played at the River Wilderness Course in Parrish, Fla.
