FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Notre Dame track & field program completed the first day of competition on Friday at the Razorback Invitational at the University of Arkansas and the Irish saw another school record fall.
Senior Chris Giesting broke his second school record in as many weeks when he finished the 200 meters in seventh place. His time of 21.02 bested the 21-year-old mark of 21.11 set by Randy Kinder in 1994. The senior set the school mark in the 600 meters at last week’s Notre Dame Invitational.
The Irish women finished the day in 10th place (six points) out of 12 teams, while the men occupy 12th place (three points).
The highest finish of the day went to the Irish women’s distance medley relay quartet. Ashlyn Rambo, Jordan Shead, Alexis Daugherty and Taylor Driscoll placed fourth in the event with a time of 11:37.65. Jade Barber finished fifth in the preliminaries for the 60 meter hurdles and will compete in Saturday’s finals with a qualifying time of 8.53. In the weight throw, Ihuoma Nwaogwugwu placed eighth (16.97m).
On the men’s side, Brent Swanberg took fifth place in the heptathlon (2762 points). Keith Mesidor was eighth in the long jump (7.24m) and the distance medley relay squad of Billy Dolan, John Rutkowski, Andrew Stone and Giesting took 9th place (10:03.31).
The Irish return to action at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday. The meet will be broadcast on ESPN3, and live results are available.
