Irish Break Records at Alex Wilson Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field team hosted its annual Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday February 19, 2022.

Both the men and women had great showings at the meet as there were several first place finishes.

The DMR teams had great days as the women’s team (Erin Sullivan, Jadin O’Brien, Kaitlin Ryan, and Olivia Markezich) took second place with a time of 10:57.84. This time set the school record for the DMR event. The women’s team currently sits at third place in the NCAA. The men’s team (Samuel Voelz, Max Frye, Tim Zepf, and Yared Nuguse) had much of the same success when they ran for a time of 9:21.73. This was also a school record time. The men’s team is currently in second place in the NCAA.

Rachel Tanczos took first place in the weight throw with a mark of 22.54m. Michael Shoaf also had a first place finish in the shot put with a toss of 19.48m. In the men’s weight throw and women’s shot put, Shoaf took third with a mark of 20.08m and Tanczos took third with a toss of 15.95m.

Kendall Burgess placed third in the long jump when she hit a 5.70m mark. In the high jump, Madison Schmidt, Sarah Flight, and Alaina Brady took third, fourth and fifth with marks of 1.71m, and 1.61m. Shae Douglas took fourth in the 60m finals with a time of 7.62. 

In the mile run, Olivia Niziolek took tenth with a time of 5:06.43 and in the men’s mile run Quinn Gallagher finished with a time of 4:15.76. Charlotte Turesson and Emily Eberhart took second and third place respectively in the 3000m race. Turesson finished with a time of 10:11.82 and Eberhart crossed the finish line at 10:13.19.

In the men’s 3000m run, Henry Chapman and Nicholas Mota took second and third place. Chapman ran for a time of 8:17.43 and Mota finished at 8:17.81. Bashir Mosavel-lo finished fourth in the 800m race with a time of 1:48.24.

The Alex Wilson Invitational wraps up regular season competition for the Irish. Their next outing is the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Blacksburg, Virginia.
