NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Irish track and field squads got weekend action underway Friday as they opened competition at the Arizona Multi-Event and Purdue’s Mike Poehlein Invitational.
The Irish earned three top-five finishes in the men’s hammer throw at the Mike Poehlein Invitational, including a third-place finish from Greg Davis. Madeline Casanova competed for the Irish in the women’s hammer throw, while Ted Glasnow, Justin Schneider and Maddie Buttinger wrapped up the Arizona Multi-Event.
The Irish will continue competition Saturday at Purdue, Florida and Auburn.
Arizona Multi-Event Results
Men’s Decathlon: Ted Glasnow finished sixth with 6,384 points, while Justin Schneider recorded 6,202 points to finish ninth. Jake Arnold, competing unattached, won the meet with 7,832 total points.
Women’s Heptathlon: Maddie Buttinger finished eighth with 4,640 points, as Bettie Wade, unattached, won the event with 5,937 points.
Mike Poehlein Invitational Results
Men’s Hammer Throw: Greg Davis finished third with a toss of 55.79m (183-00), followed by John Belcher in fourth at 55.31m (181-05) and Mitchell Gormley in fifth at 54.71m (179-06). Andrew Hills finished 12th with a toss of 50.03m (164-02). Illinois’ Matt McHugh won the event at 61.83m (202-10).
Women’s Hammer Throw: Madeline Casanova finished 18th with a mark of 42.48m (139-04). Louisville’s Jere’ Summers was the top thrower at 63.20m (207-04).
