BLACKSBURG, Va. — The University of Notre Dame track & field program kicked off the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday from the snowy campus of Virginia Tech.

Through three scored events the 24th-ranked Irish women stand in a four-way tie for 10th place of 14. Through two scored events, the Irish men sit in 12th place of 12.

In her first ACC Championships, Rachel Rhodes placed sixth in the women’s pentathlon, scoring 3,675 points. Her time of 2:16.72 in the 800 meters was good for second in the event. Lena Madison topped Irish entries in the weight throw with a 12th-place toss of 17.12 meters. The distance medley relay team placed 10th.

In the men’s weight throw, Dominick Padovano notched a personal best of 19.23 meters en route to an eighth-place finish. Meanwhile, the men’s distance medley relay team finished in ninth place, and Brent Swanberg sits in fifth place through four events of the heptathlon. His high jump of 1.99 meters was good for second place, while he also snagged fifth place in the long jump (6.82 meters).
