Irish Fall Season Comes to a Close

Conklin posts a 4-2 weekend

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s tennis team finished up fall play this weekend at the Bonita Bay Classic hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. Graduate student Peter Conklin led the way with an overall 4-2 record collecting a pair of singles and a pair of doubles victories.

Friday started with a bleak outlook for play that day as storms overnight and in the morning threatened the chances of getting matches off on day one. However, a window of dry weather allowed for the Irish to take the court for doubles matches against a combined team of players from Dartmouth and Miami. Notre Dame would make the most of the opportunity to play and sweep the three doubles contests. With favorable weather sticking around, a modified round of singles was played with the Irish winning five out of six of the eight-game pro-sets to give an overall record of 8-1 on the day.

Saturday, Notre Dame competed in a round of doubles followed by singles against a tough Memphis team. After a winless showing in the doubles portion, Conklin started singles play with a dominate winning over Oscar Cutting. The other graduate student, Aditya Vashistha, would get another point for the Irish with a come-from-behind win over top player Jeremy Taylor. Freshman Jamie Corsillo would tally a third singles victory on the day.

Sunday saw the Irish play multiple extended matches as four of the six singles contests would go to 3rd set tiebreaks. Braeden Ho rallied from 3-6 down in the deciding tiebreak to win his match while fellow teammates Corsillo, Bilsey and Vashistha all battled until the end but ultimately lost their matches.
