CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team concluded play at the Tar Heel Invitational on Sunday, finishing 18th at the event which was held at the UNC Finley Golf Course. The Irish wrapped up their tournament with a final round 297 (+9) to post a 54-hole score of 909 (+45).
LSU broke away from the tie with Alabama to claim the team title, firing an 856 (-8), while the Crimson Tide ended second at 860 (-4). Auburn rounded out the top three, finishing at three under (861). Individually, Marta Sanz of Auburn used a final day 68 (-4) to pull out a one-shot medalist win with a three-day total of 207 (-9).
Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo.) led coast-to-coast for the Irish rotation, finishing tied for 50th overall at 224 (+8) with a final round 75 (+3). She recorded the most birdies of any of her three rounds at the tournament, registering four to go along with three bogeys, 10 pars and a quadruple bogey on the par-3, 14th hole.
Freshman Ashley Armstrong (Flossmoor, Ill.) continued to improve her scores round-by-round at the event, finishing with a final day 73 (+1). She finished with four birdies, five bogeys and nine pars to conclude in a tie for 55th overall at 225 (+9).
Freshman Kelli Oride (Lihue, Hawaii) and sophomore Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif.) rounded out the Irish scoring on Sunday, finishing with scores of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3), respectively. For the tournament, Oride finished alone in 78th (229, +13) while Nhim tied for 81st at 231 (+15).
Katie Allare (Phoenix, Ariz.) did not count toward the team score on the final day, wrapping up her tournament with a 79 (+7) for a three-day total of 243 (+27). She finished 94th overall.
Notre Dame returns to the course Oct. 17-18 when it partakes in the Indiana University Fall Invitational at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
