Irish Post Several Strong Performances at GVSU Early Bird Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Notre Dame track and field team competed at the 2025 Grand Valley State University Early Bird meet on Friday and Saturday.

Gretchen Farley took first place in the 800m with a 2:09.99 while Aimee Haydee placed third with a 2:13.89. Bridget Gallagher won a tightly-contested 1,500m race with a 4:28.23. Molly Grant, Reagan Riley, and Paige Grant were second, third, and fifth while all finishing within 2.04 of Gallagher. Reese Sanders was second in the 400m hurdles after posting a time of 1:02.63.

Gabby Grattan tied for first place in the high jump after clearing 1.69m. Jillian Stafford improved upon her top-five all-time mark in hammer throw by posting a 57.50m performance to place third.

Jason Marchese took first place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.05. John Dearie added a third place finish in the 110m hurdles at the event with a 14.94 in the finals.

Peyton Murray was second in open classification for shot put with a 15.10m while competing unattached. Zach Petko took second in the invitational flight of the shot put and moved up in the program’s all-time listing in the event to seventh with a 17.81m performance. Luke Himes took third with a 17.67m in the shot put. Himes added a first place effort in the open classification of the discus with a 50.70m. Petko placed third in the open field of the hammer with a 49.42m. Matthew Teague, meanwhile, won the invitational flight of the hammer with a personal-best 59.97m performance to move into ninth in the all-time performance listing for the Irish.

The Irish will split the squad next weekend and send groups to both the 44 Farms Invitational at Texas A&M and the Duke Invite in Durham, North Carolina.
