Irish Remain In Fifth Place At The Alamo Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team remains in fifth place at 11-over par (587) after Monday’s round of the Alamo Invitational at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. The Irish improved their team score from 298 (+10) in the inaugural round to 289 (+1) in the second round. Individually, senior So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Preparatory Academy) and freshman Nicole Zhang (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) are tied for ninth place, totaling 145 (+1) after 36-holes.

Park fired a 72 par-even on the day, while Zhang registered a 73 (+1).

Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) had her best career round of golf at Notre Dame recording a 72 to better her previous 73 score by one stroke. The freshman also improved her 36-hole record from 153 (+9) at the Mercedes-Benz Championship earlier this season to her current score at the Alamo Invitational of 147 (+2). Nhim has moved up five places from 20th place to her current position in a tie for the 15th spot.

Also finishing with a par-even 72 was Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton). The junior improved her individual score of 79 (+7) from the first round and individually improved her position from being tied in 54th place to now being tied in 33rd. Senior Katie Allare (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep.) carded a 76 (+4) on the day and is tied in 50th place to round out the Irish team score.

Texas Christian University (TCU) leads the tournament with a two-day total of 575 (-1), followed by five-over (581) Tulane University in second place. Brooke Beeler of Texas Christian University remains atop the player leader board rounding out a 70 (-2) for a 36-hole total 137 (-7).

Notre Dame’s second round score of 289 (+1) falls into the top-ten team single rounds they have recorded through the history of the program. The lowest 18-hole score the Irish have recorded was a second round 281 (-7) at the Heather Farr Memorial during the 2008-09 season.

The Irish conclude the Alamo Invitational and their fall slate tomorrow with the final round of the three-day tournament. A shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) will commence the 18-holes of the contest.
