NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 29 Notre Dame men’s tennis team ran its winning streak to four on Sunday at Eck Tennis Pavilion as the Irish swept No. 56 Michigan State, 7-0, before dropping BIG EAST rival Marquette, 6-1, in the night cap.

The Irish (11-4) are now 7-1 at home and have defeated five ranked foes on the year.

Picking up two singles and two doubles victories on the day were sophomore Greg Andrews and junior Sam Keeton. Andrews won singles matches at one and two and a pair of doubles matches at two, while Keeton won singles and doubles matches at three.

Notre Dame returns to action on Wednesday when it heads to Bloomington, Ind., to meet rival Indiana in a 2 p.m. match. The Irish will look for a measure of revenge against the No. 26 Hoosiers after suffering a 6-1 loss to Indiana in Columbus, Ohio at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in January.

The Irish claimed a tough doubles point with wins at two and three. The No. 2 doubles duo of Andrews and Spencer Talmadge were first off the court with an 8-5 win over Austin Brooks and Harry Jadun. The Irish clinched the point at No. 3 doubles as Keeton and Billy Pecor knocked off Dennis Bogatov and Gijs Linders, 8-6.

The lone doubles loss came at one, as seniors Niall Fitzgerald and Casey Watt took Drew Lied and Aaron Pfister to the limit before falling 9-8 (4).

The singles portion of the match proved to be as difficult as the doubles, as two matches went to three sets, while three others saw a Spartan win four or more games in a set.

At No. 6 singles, junior Blas Moros overpowered Will Davis, 6-0, 6-1, dispatching him in just under an hour.

Pecor gave Notre Dame a 3-0 lead after he took care of Gijs Linders at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

From there the matches got a bit tighter. Watt trailed in parts of both sets, but rallied both times to take down Dennis Bogatov, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles and clinch the match for the Irish. Fitzgerald dominated Drew Lied in the first set at No. 4 singles, 6-1, but Lied returned the favor in set two (6-1), tying up the match at a game apiece. The Wicklow, Ireland product held steady in set three, closing out the match, 6-3.

With the match already decided, Sam Keeton won at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 7-5, over Austin Brooks, after trailing 5-3 in the second set.

Seeing his first action at No. 1 singles this year, Andrews (13-1) was taken to the limit by Aaron Pfister. After breezing through the first set, 6-1, Andrews lost the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3). With the Irish already assured of victory, the two played a superset to determine a winner. The twosome went beyond the regular race to 10, with Andrews prevailing, 12-10, to earn the win.

With the win the Irish have now knocked off five ranked foes on the year.
