Novak Sets Program-Best Time as Irish Open Outdoor Season

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field team kicked off its outdoor season with members competing in both the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State in North Carolina and the Victor Lopez Classic, which was hosted by Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Sophie Novak made Irish history in the 1500m on Friday afternoon, setting a new program record with a time of 4:08.90, finishing third overall. Novak surpassed Jessica Harris’ time of 4:08.93 by three hundredths of a second. Novak now owns two of the ten fastest 1500m times in Irish history.

Gretchen Farley also had a standout performance in the 1500M with a personal best time of 4:12.41. Farley recorded the third fastest 1500M in Irish history with this time.

Amaya Aramini finished seventh in the 10,000M Invitational, running a time of 32:33.77, which now ranks third all-time in program history.

Cameron Todd and Jack Henzke made strong season debuts in the 3000m Steeplechase Thursday night in North Carolina’s state capital. Todd finished seventh with a personal best time of 8:39.78. This time now ranks fourth all-time in program history, moving down Todd Ptacek’s time of 8:41.67, which was set in 2007. Henzke finished 13th in his collegiate debut in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8:45.61, which is now the seventh all-time best in program history.

Rosie Mucharsky recorded the eighth-fastest time in the 3000M Steeplechase in program history, running a time of 10:16.78, finishing 15th overall in Raleigh.

The scheduled 5000m race for Chloe Huyler and Reagan Riley was impacted by weather, which adjusted the race to 3400m. Huyler finished second with a time of 10:57.38; Riley was right behind her in third at 10:57.85. On Saturday morning that heat of the 5000m race was re-run.  Huyler finished 23rd with a time of 16:05.31. Riley finished 36th with a personal best time of 16:19.71.

Upperclassmen Jordyn Borsch, Remy Finn, and Camille Peisner all set personal bests in the 400M. Borsch finished 15th with a time of 54.94 , Finn finished 18th with a time of 55.07, and Peisner finished 26th with a time of 55.63.

Reese Sanders finished seventh in the 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 58.59. Sanders’ time ranks sixth all-time in program history.

Benjamin Pable and Obiora Okeke went second and third in the hammer throw on Friday in Houston. Pable recorded a second-place mark of 60.40m. Okeke finished with a third-place throw of 60.32. Pable’s 60.40m is now the ninth-best mark in program history, and Okeke’s 60.32m is tenth in program history.

Jillian Stafford placed first in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.94m, which is now the seventh-best hammer throw mark in program history.

On Saturday, Okeke finished third in the discus with a mark of 53.83m. Later in the shot put, Okeke finished second with a mark of 18.87m.

Isabelle Esler finished third in the javelin with a mark of 49.91m on Saturday night in Houston.
