Okeke Records Best Irish Discus Throw Since 1970; Irish Compete in Spec Towns Invitational and Al & Sue Owens Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field team was in action at two meets this weekend, with the Spec Towns Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia and the GVSU Al & Sue Owens Classic.
Spec Towns Invitational
Obiora Okeke headlined the Spec Towns Invitational for the Irish as he recorded the second farthest discus throw in Notre Dame history with a mark of 56.51m (185-4 FT). His best discus throw while at Notre Dame. It is the farthest Irish discus throw recorded since 1970, surpassing Elio Polselli’s mark of 56.00 (183′ 8.75”). The best discus throw in Irish history took place at the same meet at Michigan State in 1970, Paul Gill recorded a 58.40m (191′ 6”). Okeke’s mark of 56.51m currently ranks 21st on the 2026 NCAA Division I East Outdoor List.
Okeke also performed well in the shot put with a mark of 18.69m (61-4 FT). He placed third in the shot put. Zach Petko finished eighth in the shot put as he set a personal best with a throw of 17.99M (59-0 1/4 FT).
Lauren Huber recorded the seventh-best heptathlon score in program history with a total of 5220. Huber finished 6th overall in the Heptathlon in Athens.  Huber’s best performances came in the 800 m, where she finished first with a time of 2:09.62. She finished first in the shot put with a throw of 12.70m (41.67 FT). She placed third in both the 200M (25.08) and the Javelin Throw (36.68M) (120.34 FT). Her performance in the javelin and the 800M to end the heptathlon brought her from 11th all the way to sixth.
Kate McGuinness finished 11th overall in the Heptathlon with a total of 4,804, which is the ninth-highest total in Irish heptathlon history. McGuinness’s best event was the 800m, where she finished sixth with a time of 2:17.67. She was in 14th heading into the 800m; her sixth-place finish allowed her to finish 11th overall.
Jack Ahart set a personal best in the 400M as he finished fourth with a time of 46.52. This time moves him up to six on the program record top 10 for the 400M.
Jillian Stafford finished fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of  57.32M (188-1 FT).
Sarah David and Samantha Mancini finished eighth and ninth in the Javelin Throw in Athens. David recorded a mark of 39.61m (129-11 FT) while Mancini recorded a throw of 37.98m (124-7 FT).
Reese Sanders finished sixth overall in 400M hurdles with a time of 58.78.
Al & Sue Owens Classic
Ore Olusi recorded a throw of 13.81M (45-03.75 FT) in the shot put, finishing fourth.
Kaleigh Gunsiorowsk set a personal best in the 800M open with a time of 2:09.68 as she finished second.
Bella Guillamondegui finished fifth in the 5000M with a time of 17:45.35.
