Outdoor Track and Field in Full Swing

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field team split up to compete in the Florida State Relays, the Raleigh Relays, the Texas Relays, and the Bobcat Invitational over the weekend.

A big contingency of Irish athletes competed at the Florida State Relays with several athletes garnering top-four finishes. Eli Meder finished first in the 800m with a time of 1:50.52 on the men’s side. On the women’s side, Reese Sanders finished fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.51. Jadin O’Brien took second in the 100m hurdles (13.46) while Alaina Brady placed fourth (13.81). Gabby Grattan tied for third in the high jump with a 1.66m effort. Gabriella Zeller added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a 11.77m (+1.3 wind) performance.

The distance runners for the Irish competed at the Raleigh Relays over Thursday and Friday. Thursday saw the men’s squad at the post several big times. Seven runners competing in the 10,000m race had personal best times. Ethan Coleman led the way with a fifth-place finish after running a 28:19.81. Tyler Berg was tenth in the field of 111 competitors with a 28:21.29 for another personal-best showing. The 5,000m race saw Drew Griffith and CJ Singleton both put up personal-best times. Griffith placed 24th with a 13:42.37 while Singleton posted a 13:42.58 for 25th. Daelen Ackley and Michael Danzi had personal-bests in the 1,500m. Ackley’s 3:39.87 gave him ninth and Danzi’s 3:40.05 placed him 11th.

On the women’s side at the Raleigh Relays, Gretchen Farley ran a personal-best time of 4:2052 in the 1,500m and took 31st in a field of more than 200 runners. Sophie Novak ran unattached and placed fourth in the 5,000m with a time of 15:38.57. Isabel Allori (15:54.23) and Mary Bonner Dalton (15:54.93) placed 15th and 16th, respectively, in the event which featured more than 170 athletes.

The field athletes at the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational posted several strong marks. At the Texas Relays, Yoosang Kim had a 16.71m showing in the shot put while Zach Petko turned in a 16.71m in the same event. Luke Himes registered an 18.27m performance in the shot put at the Texas Relays to take seventh place to move into fourth all-time in the Notre Dame outdoor track and field outdoor performance list. At the Bobcat Invitational, Zach Petko placed fifth in the B section of the discus with a 46.46m effort. He then went on to tie for fourth in the shot put with a 17.46m performance, which puts him eighth on the all-time outdoor performance list for the Irish. Yoosang Kim added a tenth-place finish in the shot put with a 16.83m effort on the day. Sarah David placed 11th in the javelin with a 36.48m performance at the Texas Relays for the Irish. Jillian Stafford, meanwhile, was 15th in the hammer throw at the Texas Relays with a 56.17m and then took tenth in the hammer throw at the Bobcat Invitational with a 54.70m.
