MARION, Ind. – The outdoor track and field season began for the Irish as a handful of field athletes competed at the Indiana Wesleyan Polar Bear Invitational.
Jillian Stafford took first place in the women’s hammer throw after posting a 57.39m to finish almost three meters better than the rest of the competitors. Stafford now holds the fifth-best outdoor hammer throw effort in Notre Dame history.
Peyton Murray competed unattached in the men’s discus and placed seventh with a 46.70m performance. Luke Himes finished tenth with a 44.33m mark in his first outdoor meet for the Irish.
Matthew Teague took third in the men’s hammer throw with a personal-best 59.16m effort on his fourth attempt of the day. Teague also moved up to ninth all-time on the Notre Dame outdoor track and field list with the performance on the day. Zach Petko posted a 47.76m showing for 12th while Luke Himes registered a 46.56m mark for 16th.
Next up for the Irish is the Raleigh Relays, which take place March 26-27 in Raleigh, N.C.
