LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Jadin O’Brien continued to rewrite the history books and an Irish trio swept the pentathlon podium as the Notre Dame track and field program opened up the 2025 ACC Indoor Championships on Saturday.
O’Brien broke her own Notre Dame record along with the overall ACC record, the ACC Indoor Championship meet record, and the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center facility record with a 4580 to capture her fourth-consecutive ACC pentathlon title. She finished first outright in four of the five events – 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 800m – and tied for first in the long jump.
O’Brien further cemented herself among the all-time greats in ACC history as she is just the fifth four-time indoor champion in an event in ACC history. She is the first combined athlete ever to accomplish the feat of being a four-time indoor champion.
Joining O’Brien on the podium were teammates Addison Berry and Alaina Brady. Berry’s score of 4157 was a 52-point improvement upon her previous personal-best score set earlier this season as she took second place. Berry took a pair of second-place finishes in the shot put and the 800m. Brady posted a score of 4092 to take third and sweep the podium for the Irish. Brady was second in the 60m hurdles and the high jump.
It is the second time this season the trio have all broken the 4000-point mark in the pentathlon. The three all earned First Team All-ACC honors by virtue of their top-three placements.
The women’s distance medley relay squad of Siona Chisholm, Jordyn Borsch, Gretchen Farley, and Sophie Novak ran a 10:53.12 and took third place in a tight finish where the top three teams were separated by less than six-tenths of a second. The DMR group all earn Second Team All-ACC honors with the top-three finish.
Ethan Coleman took fourth place by beating out a pair of competitors by less than a second in the 5,000m race. Coleman ran a 13:39.78 and picked up Second Team All-ACC honors with his finish.
The men’s distance medley relay of Drew Griffith, William Doyle, Eli Meder, and Daelen Ackley placed fifth in a race where the top five spots were separated by 1.05. The first and place finishes, meanwhile, were separated by two-thousandths of a second for a wild finish for day one of the event.
Through the first day of competition, the Notre Dame women hold a team score of 30 – just three points behind Virginia Tech. The Irish men sit in eighth as the majority of Notre Dame athletes are scheduled to compete over the final two days of the championships.
