Personal and Program Records All Fall for Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Two program records came toppling down over the weekend as the Irish track and field squads had strong performances at both the Kansas State DeLoss Dodds Invitational and Notre Dame’s own Meyo Invitational.

The pentathlon trio of Jadin O’Brien, Alaina Brady and Addison Berry had strong performances at the Kansas State DeLoss Dodds Invitational on Friday. O’Brien broke her own school record with a 4552 while capturing first place. She took first place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.23, was first in the shot put with a 13.39m effort, and won the 800m with a 2:13.54. Brady set a new personal record with a 4235 and had a second place finish in the 60m hurdles while finishing third overall in the pentathlon. Berry was sixth with a personal record score of 4105 as she capped off a top-three sweep in the 60m hurdles for the Irish with third place. It is the first time for the Irish program to have a trio of 4100+ heptathlon scores in a single meet as the three athletes all stand within the top four all-time in the event.

Two weeks after breaking the school record, Madison Schmidt improved upon her record mark in the high jump with an 1.86m performance on day two of the Meyo Invitational while capturing first place in the event.

Several Irish athletes posted personal records throughout the two-day Meyo Invitational. The women’s side collected 18 personal record efforts over the span of Friday and Saturday. A pair of first-place finishes helped lead the way for those PRs. Siona Chisholm matched her indoor 3,000m personal record with a 9:03.15 and took first place in the finals. Sophie Novak took first place and posted a personal record in the one mile finals race with a 4:33.29. Maya Collins tied her personal record on her way to a first place finish in the 60m dash with a 7.42

The men’s side had 21 personal records fall at the Meyo Invitational. Luke Himes took first place in the shot put with a personal record throw of 17.49m. Vincent Mauri took first place in a fast 3,000m finals race with a PR time of 7:50.33.

The Irish return to action on Saturday, February 8 as the squad will split to compete at both the Fairgrounds Invitational in Indianapolis and the Grand Valley State University Mike Lints Alumni Meet.
