AS A SOPHOMORE: Began to shift his focus almost exclusively to the pole vault, resulting in an outdoor all-BIG EAST performance … vaulted 4.50m (14-9) to take second and set a career best at the Notre Dame Opener … took eighth and was one of four Notre Dame point scorers in the pole vault at the BIG EAST indoor meet … his points contributed to the Notre Dame men[apos]s team title … took tenth outdoors at the Mike Poehlein Invitational, vaulting 4.45m (14-7 1/4) … tied for sixth at the Central Collegiate Championship with the same height … went 4.55m (14-11 1/4) at the Hillsdale Gina Relays … stepped up with a huge performance at the outdoor BIG EAST Championship, vaulting a career best of 4.80m (15-9) to finish third and earn all-BIG EAST honors … will be one of the more interesting and exciting athletes to watch in 2008.
AS A FRESHMAN: Competed in multiple events for the Irish, forming a heptathlon duo with Gonzalo Brenner during the indoor season … earned a BIG EAST qualifying mark in the pole vault, posting a 4.45m (14-7 ?) mark at the Purdue Invitational … in his first heptathlon competition at the Notre Dame Invitational, scored 4,435 points … was unable to compete in the BIG EAST indoor meet and subsequently missed the entire outdoor season due to injury.
HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL: Three-time letterwinner in indoor and outdoor track & field at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School … multi-event athlete with a focus on the pole vault … a nationally-ranked pole vaulter in his final high school season … Alabama outdoor pole vault state champion in his sophomore year … three-time all-state honoree indoors and two-time recipient outdoors in the pole vault … took fourth in the outdoor decathlon during the 2005 season … Nokia Sugar Bowl Classic pole vault champion in his junior season … three-time all-city selection in the pole vault for both indoor and outdoor track … personal bests of 15 feet in the pole vault and 146 feet in the javelin … member of National Honor Society, Campus Ministry, Ambassador Club, and recipient of two academic/scholastic letters at McGill-Toolen Catholic … younger of two children … grandfather, David Stapleton, played football at Auburn … born June 6, 1987 in Sulphur, La. … enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters.
