Isaiah Thompson 2026-27 Men's Basketball Staff
Player Development & Recruiting Coordinator
Isaiah Thompson reunites with Coach Shrewsberry as the Player Development and Recruiting Coordinator. Thompson spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant under Matt Painter at Purdue, helping guide the Boilermakers to a Sweet 16, an Elite Eight, and a No. 1 national ranking. He also assisted in the development of consecutive First Team All-American Braden Smith.
“We’re excited to add Isaiah Thompson to our staff and continue building a group that brings different experiences, strong relationships, and a shared commitment to player development. Isaiah has been a part of high-level basketball environments throughout his career, most recently spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant at Purdue,” Coach Shrewsberry said.
Thompson is fresh off a two-year stint as a GA on Coach Painter’s staff at Purdue. He was responsible for opponent scouting, film breakdown, helping with individual workouts and administrative duties.
In his first year, the Boilermakers reached the Sweet 16 with a 24-12 record. Last season, Purdue achieved its third 30-win season in program history and reached the Elite Eight round.
Thompson also played a role in Braden Smith earning First Team All-America honors for two consecutive years while also being named the 2025 Big Ten Player of the Year.
“Isaiah was an outstanding point guard and understands the game from a player’s perspective, which will be a real asset for our guys every day. He has been part of an elite culture, has won at a high level as both a player and coach, and understands the habits, discipline, and standards that come with sustained success,” Coach Shrewsberry added.
Ultimately, as a player, Thompson was a part of two NCAA Tournament teams (2021 and 2022) and helped the Boilermakers to their first No. 1 ranking in school history.
He appeared in 152 career games at Purdue in which he recorded 1,260 points, 234 made three-pointers and 233 assists. He then went on to average 14.9 points and 14.1 points in his final two seasons at FGCU.
