JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Notre Dame track and field team excelled in the sprint portion of Friday’s racing, with Kaila Barber and Megan Yanik (400m hurdles) as well as Patrick Feeney (400m dash) earning berths into the NCAA Outdoor Championships after their performances at the NCAA East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
The final day of competition gets underway with the men’s pole vault at 11 a.m. Saturday. Senior Kevin Schipper will look to punch his second ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in his career. He was named an All-American in 2010.

WOMEN’S 400M HURDLES
Kaila Barber posted the strongest showing of the day among Irish competitors, qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championship following her sixth-place showing in the 400m hurdles in 57.90. She becomes the first Irish woman to qualify in the event since Nadia Schmeidt in 1997.
Megan Yanik made it two-for-two in qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championship, placing 11th in 58.24. It is the first NCAA appearance for Yanik and marks the first event for the Notre Dame women in which more than one Irish participant has qualified since ’06 when both Molly Huddle and Stephanie Madia qualified in the 5,000m run.
MEN’S 400M DASH
Patrick Feeney advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championship after finishing 11th in the 400m dash in 46.27. Feeney ends a near 40-year drought for the Irish at the NCAAs in that event, becoming the first to qualify for the NCAA Championship since Bill Boyle in 1964.
WOMEN’S POLE VAULT
Kelly Burke took 21st with a vault of 3.80m (12-5.50 ft.).
MEN’S 100M DASH
Josh Atkinson placed 22nd with a time of 10.51 seconds.
WOMEN’S 100M HURDLES
Jade Barber finished 28th with a time of 13.53 seconds.
WOMEN’S 3,000M STEEPLECHASE
McKinzie Schulz captured 38th with a time of 10:39.54.
WOMEN’S HIGH JUMP
Maddie Buttinger took 39th with a jump of 1.67m.
WOMEN’S 200M DASH
Aijah Urssery finished 39th with a time of 24.36 seconds.
MEN’S 3,000M STEEPLECHASE
Jordan Carlson placed 41st with a time of 9:17.46.
MEN’S HAMMER THROW
Andrew Hills took 45th with a toss of 53.01m (173-11 ft.).
