Top Ten Performances Pace Irish at Notre Dame Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame track & field team returned to their home venue of Loftus Sports Center and hosted the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Three top-ten all-time performances were posted by the Irish at the race in the women’s weight throw, women’s one-mile and women’s 800m.

Zahra Bichara (5.73m), Ashley Fisher (5.66m) and Kate McGuinness (5.42m) swept the top three spots in the women’s long jump. Lauren Huber took second place in the women’s high jump after clearing 1.61m. Jillian Stafford’s 17.13m performance in the weight throw gives the senior the tenth-best mark in Notre Dame indoor track & field history.

The Irish women had a strong showing in the one-mile race. Isabel Allori ran unattached and won the event with a 4:34.74. Gretchen Farley took second with a 4:35.49, which is now fifth in the top ten all-time performance list in program history. Camille Peisner (55.40) and Jordyn Borsch (55.64) finished second and third in the women’s 400m race. Rosie Mucharsky’s time of 2:06.28 in the 800m gave the freshman the win and the fifth-fastest time in the event in program history.

The 4x400m relay group of Remy Finn, Camille Peisner, Reese Sanders and Jordyn Borsch took first place with a time of 3:43.88 for the Irish.

On the men’s Obiora Okeke (18.02m) and Zach Petko (16.72m) finished one-two in the men’s shot put while Talon Beichler competed unattached and placed third with a 16.32m. Jackson McDowell tied for first in the high jump with a 2.06m mark on the day. Okeke posted a 20.45m performance in the weight throw to claim second place.

Benji Anderson took first place in the men’s one-mile race with a 4:03.74 for a new personal record time. Ryan Pajak (4:05.58) and Jack Henzke (4:05.71) took third and fourth, respectively. Jack Ahart (47.58) and Mika Brouwer (47.62) were second and third in the men’s 400m. John Schuler (1:51.26) and Benji Anderson (1:51.30) posted PRs and finished one-two in the men’s 800m.

The Irish return to racing on Friday and Saturday, January 30-31, when they host the 40th annual Meyo Invitational. Friday’s competition begins at 4:00 p.m. while Saturday’s events start at 11:30 a.m. in the Loftus Sports Center. Additionally, some members of the team will compete at the Kansas State University DeLoss Dodds Invitational over the weekend.
