VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Notre Dame cross country team kicked off their 2022 season with the Winrow-Valparaiso Open on Sept. 2. Both the men’s and women’s team took home first place.
The Irish collected 19 top-15 finishes with first through tenth place being swept by the Notre Dame men’s team.
Izaiah Steury kicked off the results by taking first place with a time of 17:52.3. Followed right behind him was Carter Cheesman, Robert Cozean, Ethan Coleman, Jake Renfree, Ryan Schmacher, CJ Singleton, Gabe Hinrichs, Daelen Ackely, Henry Chapman, and Luke Schildmeyer.
Cheesman finished with a time of 17:52.9, while Cozean and Coleman finished in 17:59.3 and 17:59.6, respectively.
Renfree and Schumacher crossed the finish line at 18:06.3 and 18:07.3. Teammates Singleton, Hinrichs, and Ackley all ran for times of 18:07.3, 18:11.8, and 18:22.6.
Chapman and Schildmeyer rounded out the Notre Dame results with times of 18:29.3 and 18:44.2.
On the women’s side, Kaitlin Ryan took second place overall with a time of 18:10.7. Sophie Novak crossed the finish line for third place with a time of 18:16.3.
Charlotte Turesson finished the course with a time of 18:22.0. Molly Grant and Elizabeth Schmidt crossed the finish line at 18:39.0 and 18:44.3, respectively. Emily Eberhart finished in 19:05.0. Paige Grant, Isalina Colsman, and Catherine Coffey ran for times of 19:17.8, 19:28.3, and 19:53.6.
The cross country team is back in action when they host the National Catholic Invite on Sept. 16.
