TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams confidently punched their ticket to the NCAA National Championships where the women’s team took first place and the men’s team took second in the Great Lakes Regional held in Terre Haute, Ind. The women’s team totaled 34 points and the men’s team tallied 64 points with both teams advancing to the championships.
The women’s team showed out with Olivia Markezich taking first place overall with a time of 19:54.1. The Irish worked together to also claim fourth when Siona Chisholm crossed the finish line at 20:07.0, Maddy Denner at 20:23.4 to take sixth place, and Katie Thronson (20:17.2) and Erin Strzelecki (20:17.3) taking 11th and 12th, respectively.
Anna Sophia Keller ran for a time of 20:21.2 with teammate Katie Rose Blachowicz finishing at 21:19.7. Markezich, Chisholm, Denner, Thronson, Strzelecki and Keller all secure All-Region honors.
On the men’s side of things, the Irish were led by Carter Solomon and Izaiah Steury who crossed the finish line at 29:55.8 and 30:02.5 to take fifth and sixth place. Jake Renfree finished in fifteenth place with a time of 30:17.4. Matthew Carmody and Josh Methner were right behind with times of 30:20.5 and 30:23.3, respectively.
Carter Cheeseman finished at 30:31.7 with teammate Quinn Gallager right behind him at 30:43.4. Solomon, Steury, Methner, Carmody, Renfree and Cheeseman all secured All-Region honors.
The NCAA Championships are set for November 18 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
