Irish Squads Make Top-Seven Finishes at Pre-Nationals

MADISON, Wis. – The Notre Dame men’s and women’s cross country programs posted a pair of top-seven finishes at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals races on Saturday morning at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country course.
The loaded fields featured 20 of the top 30 ranked women’s programs with six of the top 10 teams and each of the top five ranked programs competing in the opening “A” race of the day. The men’s side had 19 of the top 30 ranked programs with seven top 10 teams racing in the “A” race.
WOMEN’S RACE
The No. 4 ranked Irish women’s cross country squad took fifth with a team score of 216 and were nine points back of fourth place West Virginia. Second-ranked BYU won the event with a team score of 105.
Siona Chisholm paced the Irish with a 19:38.8 time in the 6k event to place 12th overall. It marked Chisholm’s first sub-20 6k time since the 2023 ACC Championship event. Emily Covert was close behind with a 19:49.5 to place 15th. Arianne Olson turned in a 20:16.6 (55th) while freshmen Isabel Allori (20:23.0; 66th) and Mary Bonner Dalton (20:23.3; 68th) finished almost back-to-back to round out the team scoring efforts.
Gretchen Farley (20:27.0) and Caroline Lehman (20:37.4) also competed for the Irish in the “A” race.

MEN’S RACE
The No. 5 ranked Notre Dame men’s cross country team placed seventh in the “A” race with a team score of 200 and were one point away from sixth place Wisconsin. Third-ranked Arkansas captured the team title with a score of 89.
Carter Solomon led the way for the Irish with a 23:08.2 in the 8k competition to finish 12th overall. Ethan Coleman (23:17.1) and Izaiah Steury (23:18.0) were back-to-back for Notre Dame in 27th and 28th, respectively. Kevin Sanchez ran a 23:35.6 for 59th while Daelen Ackley turned in a 23:43.3 for 74th to round out the scoring.
Drew Griffith (23:45.6; 84th) and CJ Singleton (24:02.4; 116th) also ran in the “A” race in the morning.

In the open races, Reagan Riley (21:32.7; 20th) and Cole Nash (23:59.2; 4th) paced the Notre Dame efforts on the day.
The Irish now set their focus on the 2024 ACC Championships, which take place on Friday, November 1 in Cary, North Carolina.
