Men Break Into Top Ten With No. 7 National Ranking

Oct. 3, 2007

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s cross country team moved up to the No. 7 spot on the United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll released this week, their highest ranking on the season. This is also the highest ranking for the Irish since the 2005 season when the Irish were ranked fifth leading in to the NCAA Championship

Coming into the season the Irish sat in the 13th spot, moving up to 12th after their first-place finish at the National Catholic Championship held on Sept. 14. It was the team’s title-winning performance at the Notre Dame Invitational over ninth-ranked North Caroline State, among other ranked teams, that catapulted Notre Dame into the top-ten ranking.

The men’s team will not be in action this week, but will return to competition on Oct. 13 when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in the Pre-National Meet held on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. Results from the meet will be available on the official Notre Dame athletics web site (www.und.com) and the Notre Dame Sports Hotline (574) 631-3000.
