NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The 13th-ranked Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team lost its second straight as the Irish dropped an 8-7 decision to 12th-ranked Hofstra.

The Flying Dutchmen, who snapped a three-game losing streak, held off a four-goal Notre Dame third-quarter rally as the Irish dropped to 3-3 on the season.

The Irish were held scoreless in the second quarter and neither team failed to capitalize on any scoring chances in the fourth quarter.

In a game of runs, Hofstra built an 8-3 advantage in the contest with 14:13 remaining in the contest as the Flying Dutchment scored six unanswered goals.

Notre Dame led 3-2 after the first period, but Hofstra held the Irish scoreless in the second quarter in building their lead. The Flying Dutchmen led 7-3 at the intermission and quickly got on the scoreboard when Ramar Clash tallied Hofstra’s final goal of the contest just 45 seconds into the third quarter.

The Irish scored the game’s final four goals with Steve Bishko (West Islip, N.Y.) scoring twice during the third quarter. Tom Glatzel (Ellicott City, Md.), who had two goals in the game, ended the Irish scoring drought that spanned 22:41 when he netted his second goal of the game with 7:20 remaining in the third quarter.

John Harvey (Winchester, Mass.) had his second career hat trick in the contest. He scored Notre Dame’s first two goals of the game and tallied the goal that pulled the Irish to within 8-6 with 4:08 remaining in the contest.

Notre Dame scored four goals in a span of 5:26 with Bishko netting the game’s final score with 1:44 remaining in the third quarter.

David Ulrich (Baltimore, Md.) had three assists for Notre Dame in the game.

Joe Kostolansky led the Flying Dutchment to their second straight victory over the Irish as he tallied three times in the game. The one-goal decision also marked the second year in which the game was decided by a single goal. In 1999, Hofstra earned a 10-9 overtime decisiion in Hempstead, N.Y.

Michael Demeo made 16 saves in goal for the Flying Dutchmen, while Kirk Howell (Nashville, Tenn.) made 11 stops for the Irish who were outshot 34-32 in the game.

Notre Dame finishes a three-game homestand next Saturday, April 1 when the Irish host Ohio State in a Great Western Lacrosse League test.
