Notre Dame Men's Lacrosse Set for O'Leary Cup Week

Nov. 28, 2016

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse program kicks off its annual O’Leary Cup competition on Monday. The competition has become one of the highlights of the fall Notre Dame lacrosse experience schedule.

The O’Leary Cup is a week long competition that consists of numerous events. The lacrosse roster is broken up into four teams that will compete together throughout the week to earn points. The team that accrues the most points over the four days of competition will be crowned the champions and be exempt from Friday’s 6 a.m. team workout.

The first three days of events will focus on team sports. The teams will play team handball, basketball, flag football and box lacrosse. The winner of each event will be awarded eight points. Second place will receive four points, third place earns two points and the fourth place team gets zero points for each event.

Thursday, the final day of competition, will feature the Tour du Lac Fitness Challenge. The point totals double for the finale.

The University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team pursues excellence on and off the field through the three pillars in which the program is built: Character, Culture & Community. These three foundational values guide the promise of the program, which is to provide its student-athletes with the most compelling and enriching experience in all of college athletics. Through academics, competition, service and travel, the program aims to immerse its players in situations that enhance their student-athlete experience to help them become the people, students and teammates they aspire to be.
