Irish Finish With Four Champions On Day One Of The ACC Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish had a strong performance on Thursday, Feb. 22, to open up the 2024 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted at The Track at New Balance in Boston, Massachusetts. 

The Irish tabbed four first place finishes, one second place finish, and two third place finishes to reach the podium seven times on day one of the championships. 

Jadin O’Brien was crowned the ACC Pentathlon Champion for the second year in a row as she scored 4329 points, winning the 60m hurdles, shot put, and 800 meter race. 

Alaina Brady secured her spot on the podium with a second place finish, scoring 4150 and recording a PR in the event.

The Irish took home the title in both the men’s and the women’s 5000 meter race. 

Carter Solomon finished first in the men’s 5000 meter with a time of 13:50.55 and was followed by Ethan Coleman, who finished third with a time of 13:51.97. On the women’s side, Erin Strzelecki took home first as she ran a 15:58.04 in the 5000 meter race. 

The Notre Dame women’s 4000 meter DMR team of Sophia Novak, Bridget Lalonde, Claire Sievern, and Olivia Markezich claimed their first place finish as they set a new meet record, running a 10:49.74 in the race and breaking Duke’s record of 10:49.87 in 2023. 

On the men’s side, the 4000m DMR reached the podium as well as the team of Daelen Ackley, Joey Dobrydney, Jake Renfree, and CJ Singleton secured a third place finish after running a 9:35.47 in the relay.
